Harassment and bullying policies people actually use

We review or write your anti harassment and bullying policy and the procedures for reporting abuse, then train managers and HR to put them into practice.

What the law asks of you

In Kenya, every employer with 20 or more employees must issue a policy statement on sexual harassment after consulting staff. It must define sexual harassment, state that every employee has the right to work free from it, commit to preventing it and to disciplining those who harass, explain how to make a complaint, and promise to keep complaints confidential.

A policy on file is not enough. If staff do not know how to report, or do not trust what happens next, harassment and bullying stay hidden. The policy has to be clear, the reporting route has to be safe, and managers have to know what to do when someone comes to them.

What we deliver

  • A review of your current policy, procedures and how past complaints were handled
  • One clear policy covering sexual harassment, bullying, abuse and retaliation
  • Reporting procedures with more than one route to report, a confidential option, clear timelines and protection for the person who reports
  • An investigation process and committee, with templates for each step
  • Support and referral routes for people who report, including the free national GBV helpline on 1195
  • A staff briefing, and training for managers and HR on receiving a report and what to do next

How we work

  1. Review

We read what you have and talk to HR and leaders about how reports are handled today.

  2. Consult

We hear from staff, as the law requires, so the policy reflects how your workplace really works.

  3. Draft

A clear policy and reporting procedure in plain language, ready for leadership sign off.

  4. Train

Managers and HR practise receiving a report. Staff learn how to raise a concern safely.

  5. Check in

We review how the policy is working after the first months and adjust what needs it.

We also write alcohol and substance use policies covering prevention, help seeking, confidentiality and return to work, and gender equality policies that fit your organisation and the law.

Common questions

Is a sexual harassment policy a legal requirement in Kenya?

Yes, for employers with 20 or more employees. Section 6 of the Employment Act 2007 says the policy must define sexual harassment, state that staff have the right to work free from it, explain how to complain and promise confidentiality.

We already have a policy. Can you review it?

Yes. We check it against the law and against how complaints are actually handled, then update it so it is clear and usable.

Does the policy cover bullying too?

Yes. We write one policy that covers sexual harassment, bullying, abuse and retaliation, so staff have one place to look and one way to report.

Can you help us set up an investigation process?

Yes. We help you set up an investigation committee, response guidelines and templates for each step, and train the people who will use them.

How much does it cost?

It depends on whether you need a review or a new policy, and on the size of your organisation. Book a free call and we will send a quote.
